These straight-flute thread mills have a staggered-tooth design that reduces side-cutting pressure in thread-milling applications. They can be used for internal and external threading applications. The thread mills have a TiAlN coating that withstands high temperatures and protects the thread mills from wear when milling hard materials. The TiAlN coating allows the thread mills to be used at faster speeds than thread mills with a bright finish. These thread mills have a carbide head that offers excellent wear resistance, heat resistance, and hardness, and they have a high-speed steel shank. Carbide-head thread mills provide more wear resistance than carbide-tipped thread mills and tolerate more vibration and shock than carbide thread mills. Straight-flute thread mills are suitable for general purpose thread-milling applications. They provide good strength but require a rigid machine setup. Straight-flute thread mills create threads of the same pitch in a range of hole diameters, eliminating the need to change tools when threading multiple holes of different sizes.
