AD Surgical UNIFY Silk Suture. Braided Black. Non-absorbable, sterile, flexible multifilament thread composed of an organic protein called fibroin. This protein is derived from the domesticated species Bombyx mori (B. mori) of the family Bombycidae. While Silk suture is not absorbed, progressive degradation of the proteinaceous silk fiber in vivo may result in gradual loss of the suture tensile strength over time. Silk suture elicits a mild acute inflammatory reaction in the tissue, which is followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue. Natural non-absorbable silk surgical suture is indicated for use in soft tissue approximation and/or ligation. Ultra sharp needle point for atraumatic tissue penetration. Needle coated with silicone for smooth tissue passage. Each box contains 12 individually sterilized foil packs of sutures and one instruction sheet.
