Water based polyurethane can be used to recoat a floor that was previously finished with an oil based poly as long as the floor is prepared following the label directions. The water based poly can be applied over oil based Minwax stains. It is not recommended to use water based stains on floors because they dry quickly making them difficult to apply evenly on large surface areas. 3 coats of water based polyurethane are recommended for heavy traffic areas. Water based polyurethane base coat must be applied on unstained wood floors prior to applying the water based polyurethane for floors to avoid tannin discoloration in natural wood (refer to model <br>No. 17650 and 17450 base coats).
