Dramatic demonstration kit that provides an impressive, unforgettable, hands-on demonstration of how lungs work and the effects of prolonged smoking by using real swine lungs. Students are able to feel the texture and fragility of the lung, as well as learning that real lungs are not like rubber balloons in a bell jar. The smoker’s lungs have a palpable internal tumor and a physical simulated external tumor to encourage students to feel the texture of the lungs, and to remember that smoking is a known cause of lung cancer. The inflatable swine lungs provided have been preserved with a BioFlex, nontoxic solution that retains the texture and elasticity of fresh lungs. Note: this product contains natural tissue (color may vary). Demonstrates the differences in color and texture of smoker’s and nonsmoker’s lungs. Supplemental information about lung cancer, other smoking-related diseases, and air pollutants is also included. The kit includes inflation rack and trays; air pump; one pair of reusable, normal inflatable swine lungs with guide; one pair of simulated smoker’s lungs with guide; one section of dried swine lung; teacher instructional video; and storage containers.
